Erba EM 200 LIS integration with PathLab Software

Fully automated random-access biochemistry analyzer, 200 tests/hour (bidirectional-capable analyzer). Connects over ASTM E1394 over TCP/IP or RS-232 (LAN or serial), with Any configured chemistry, ISE and calculated tests mapped to your test master. Included in Pro and Chain with no per-analyzer fee.

In short: PathLab Software takes results from the Erba EM 200 (fully automated random-access biochemistry analyzer, 200 tests/hour) over ASTM E1394 over TCP/IP or RS-232. Direction: Results to LIS: live · orders to analyzer: on request. Testing status: Simulator-tested; validated on site at go-live; it has not been field-validated with a customer yet. Results land on the barcoded sample with flags and delta checks, included in Pro (₹3,999/month) and Chain with no per-analyzer fee.

What is live today for the Erba EM 200

Result fields captured: Sample barcode, test code, value and unit per chemistry. Dilution and rerun flags are not captured yet. Testing status: Simulator-tested; validated on site at go-live (configured in the demo workspace). No analyzer has been field-validated with a customer yet; this one is validated at your lab with known samples before you rely on interfaced results. Full compatibility matrix.

How the Erba EM 200 works with PathLab Software

The EM 200 reads the barcode and sends each chemistry result with the sample ID. PathLab Software matches the barcode, maps short codes such as GLU, UREA and CREA to your tests and applies ranges, flags, delta checks and critical limits. Calculated values such as indirect bilirubin, globulin and A/G ratio can come from the analyzer or from PathLab Software's formula engine; using one source keeps reports and the audit trail consistent. Downloading the order list to the analyzer (bidirectional) is available on request and validated on site. Reagent consumption is recorded on the Inventory page.

Hardware and cabling

None on units with the LAN board. Older EM 200s with only an RS-232 port need a USB-to-serial adapter; the usual setting is 9600 baud, 8-N-1 unless your service engineer has changed it.

Setup tips

  • Match test codes exactly: the EM 200 sends short codes (for example GLU, UREA, CREA); map each once
  • Decide whether calculated tests come from the analyzer or from PathLab Software, not both
  • If you enable auto-rerun on critical values on the analyzer, agree with your pathologist which result is released

What you get once it is connected

  • Results land on the correct sample with units, H/L flags from your reference ranges and a delta check against the patient's previous visit.
  • Critical values trigger the auto-call to the referring doctor with retries, escalation and an acknowledgement log; staff still inform the clinician if it stays open.
  • Every interfaced result records the analyzer and time, and every message is kept on the analyzer log for your NABL evidence.
  • The validated report goes to the patient and doctor on WhatsApp the moment the pathologist signs; see a sample report.

New to LIS connections? The HL7 vs ASTM vs serial interfacing guide explains protocols, cabling and what goes wrong, and PathLab Software pricing shows which plans include interfacing.

Model names belong to their manufacturers. Protocol details come from typical LIS configurations of this model, not from a customer installation; firmware versions vary, so we confirm against your unit and validate on site. Status as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Erba EM 200 need any extra hardware to connect to PathLab Software?

None on units with the LAN board. Older EM 200s with only an RS-232 port need a USB-to-serial adapter; the usual setting is 9600 baud, 8-N-1 unless your service engineer has changed it.

Is interfacing the Erba EM 200 chargeable?

No. It is included in the Pro and Chain plans with no per-machine fee, including on-site validation with known samples during the free setup.

Has the Erba EM 200 been tested with PathLab Software?

Testing status: Simulator-tested; validated on site at go-live. No analyzer has been field-validated with a customer yet; the Erba EM 200 is validated at your lab with known samples before you rely on interfaced results.

What if the Erba EM 200 is already connected to another LIS?

The analyzer's LIS output can only point to one host at a time. During cutover we change the host IP or serial target to the PathLab Software connector; the switch takes a few minutes and is usually done after the day's run.

How long does it take to connect the Erba EM 200?

We plan about 60 to 90 minutes with your technician or service engineer. That covers the Erba EM 200 LIS settings, mapping its parameter codes to your PathLab Software test master and running at least three known samples to confirm results land on the right patient. It is a planning estimate, not a measured average.

Connect your Erba EM 200 during the free setup

About 60 to 90 minutes with your technician: protocol settings, parameter mapping and at least three known samples compared value by value.
